Overview:
The Bridge is starting our annual mentorship program in partnership with The City of Olympia. This project is about teaching youth music skills, while also connecting them with positive adults to act as role models.

Format:

  • Each week music mentors will meet with youth using Zoom for a 60 minute mentorship session.

  • Youth will be matched with their mentors based on their personalities and creative interest.

  • In these sessions youth can learn an instrument, write a song and/or hangout. The youth sets the agenda.

  • The priority in this project is fun. While we want youth to improve as musicians, this is meant to be a low-pressure environment.

The Youth Involved:

  • Many of the youth who will be participating in this project will come from different life circumstances, such as foster care, homelessness, and incarceration.

What We Are Looking for In Music Mentors:

  • We are searching for adults with a genuine interest in having a positive impact on youth’s lives.

  • Mentors should have some type of musical skill that they can teach. This can mean rapping, singing, beat making, DJing, audio recording, guitar playing, and so on.

  • Strong boundaries are important for this role, and all mentors will participate in a boundaries training.

  • Mentors must pass a Washington State Criminal History Check.

  • Mentors should have the ability to approach youth and situations with a non-judgmental attitude.

Benefits:

  • Exposure to a diverse group of young people who are passionate about music.

  • Professional training and experience working with at-risk youth.

  • Using your skills to directly impact the lives of youth in a positive way.

  • Joining a team of awesome, caring people who are doing meaningful work in our community.
